The 16th Warsaw Jewish Film Festival is coming!

The 16th Warsaw Jewish Film Festival will take place from November 12th to November 18th, 2018 at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Praha Cinema and JCC Warsaw. 

It is held under the honorary patronage of the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship Adam Struzik. Apart from organizing the festival, the Camera of David Foundation WJFF.pl also focuses on education and popularization of Jewish culture. This year’s program includes 30 new films from Israel, Poland, the United States, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Germany, UK, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine. The 16th Warsaw Jewish Film Festival is dedicated to the late Israeli actress and director Ronit Elkabetz and will feature a retrospective of her works.

As always, the program will include various sections: Modern Israeli Cinema (featuring Amos Gitai’s new movie “A Tramway in Jerusalem”), German Cinema on Jewish Subjects, Culinary Films and Films about the Polish Righteous. The organizers are trying to focus on modern Jewish life in the Diaspora and in Israel, films on Jewish history and tradition, as well as films about the Holocaust. The organizers of the festival try to present many different perspectives and show the diversity of modern Jewish life.

Opening Night Movie: WHO WILL WRITE OUR HISTORY, dir. Roberta Grossman, USA, Poland 2018, 97', NOVEMBER 12th, POLIN Museum, 8:00 PM.

 

The Opening Night will feature the screening of a feature documentary written, produced and directed by Roberta Grossman and executive produced by Nancy Spielberg. The movie tels the story of Emanuel Ringelblum and the Oyneg Shabes archive. With the voices of Adrien Brody and Joan Allen. Dramatizations Cast: Jowita Budnik, Piotr Glowacki, Karolina Gruszka, Wojciech Zielinski. Katahdin Productions and Match&Spark in Association with NDR and ARTE. Screening with Polish producers and actors!

This year’s program will feature many new movies, Polish premieres, films awarded at international festivals and socially conscious productions: shorts and feature films, animations and documentaries. The WJFF also includes many Polish premieres: Red Cow (dir. Tsivia Barkai-Yacov), Fig Tree (dir. Alamork Davidian), The Oslo Diaries (dir. Mor Loushy, Daniel Sivan), The Last Supper (dir. Florian Frerichs), The Accountant from Auschwitz (dir. Matthew Shoychet) and The Four Sisters: Baluty (dir. Claude Lanzmann). The organizers are also planning two Warsaw premieres: Etgar Keret. Based on a True Story (dir. Stephane Kaas) and Kichka: Life Is a Cartoon (dir. Delfina Jałowik).

A new events will also be held: Loesje creative writing workshops dedicated to film and Jewish themes in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Warsaw.

Admission to all events and screenings of the 16th Warsaw Jewish Festival is free.
