FATHER AND SON ON A JOURNEY
dir. Marcel Łoziński, Poland, 2013, 75 min
The screening is presented as part of the special WJFF project "Decades. 1945-2013." Introduction by Ignacy Strączek and psycho-traumatologist Małgorzata Wosińska (creators of the "Decades" project).
Two outstanding documentary filmmakers: father and son – Marcel and Paweł Łoziński – set off on a trip in an iconic Volkswagen camper. They travel to Paris, Marcel's birthplace and the city where he scattered his mother's ashes. The journey provides the backdrop for a conversation about the father-son relationship; the confined space of the camper and the long road through Europe make it impossible to escape difficult questions. We observe two generations of Polish Jews after the Holocaust. The son demands explanations, often taking up an accusatory tone, but both do not hide the fact how much they love each other. The different perspectives allowed for the creation of two films from the same material. It is fascinating to observe the different focuses of both artists, and where their perspectives converge...
