POLISH PREMIERE. “The Deluge. Postscriptum” looks behind the scenes of the making of the cult Polish historical film, nominated for an Oscar in 1974. It is also a colorful chapter from the life of its maker. "The Deluge" was a monumental work in every respect. 286 minutes of the original version, 535 shooting days, 23,000 costumes, a record budget and 27 million viewers in cinemas. It stirred up emotions from the very beginning, when the whole of Poland trembled at the news that Kmicic was to be played by Daniel Olbrychski, i.e. Azja Tuhajbejowicz from COLONEL WOŁODYJOWSKI. The fact that Jerzy Hoffman got the chance to film the middle part of the Trilogy at all is partly due, paradoxically, to... the anti-Semitic campaign of 1968. It was then that Aleksander Ford, who was already planning the movie, was forced to leave Poland. On the set, Hoffman had to overcome thousands of difficulties, struggling with production problems, distrust of the communist government, and viewers' expectations fuelled by the press. Not surprisingly, the story of the making of the film abounds in tasty anecdotes. And when they are told by the director himself, a talented storyteller, the result can only be an exciting documentary!
