THE GLORY OF LIFE
dir. Georg Maas, Judith Kaufmann, Germany, Austria, 2024, 98 min
A classic love story starring Franz Kafka! It’s the summer of 1923. Frail and with only a year left to live, Franz is recuperating on a Baltic beach when he meets Dora Diamant, a young socialist from Pabianice. They’re a perfect match. He finally leaves his toxic family home and his tyrannical father for her; she is ready for any sacrifice. They move to Berlin, where Franz is finally able to dedicate himself to writing and can find respite from his tormenting demons in his lover's arms. However, family bliss was not Kafka’s destiny. He died in a tuberculosis sanatorium in Kierling in June 1924, at the age of 40. Dora was by his side until his final days.
