The 21st Warsaw Jewish Film Festival “Camera of David" (WJFF) will take place from October 23rd to 29th at the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews (main partner), Muranów cinema, KinoGram cinema (Norblin Factory) and JCC Warsaw. The event will be hybrid. Thanks to our partner VOD Warszawa, the festival will reach audience even from the most remote corners of Poland. Over 7 days, we will showcase over 30 of the latest Jewish-themed film productions from around the world. Many of them will be available for Polish viewers to watch exclusively with us! Films that have been qualified for the main competition will compete for the "POLIN-Grand Prix." The "POLIN-Grand Prix" is the fruit of an 11-year collaboration between the Polin Museum and the “Camera of David Foundation". It's a proof of the mutual trust and importance the Museum places on Jewish-themed cinematography.

Guy Nattiv's 'Golda' – the opening film of the 21st WJFF

The opening and closing ceremonies of the festival will traditionally take place at the POLIN Museum. This year's event lineup will feature many films with strong female characters. Central to the opening ceremony film is the "Iron Lady of Israel" Golda Meir. The film ‘Golda’ by Oscar winner Guy Nattiv had its world premiere at the Berlinale and was also the opening film of the Jerusalem International Film Festival. During the 21st Warsaw Jewish Film Festival, its Polish premiere will take place. It's a captivating portrayal of an individual at the heights of power, right in the midst of the Yom Kippur War. The leading role is played by the charismatic award-winning actress – among others, an Oscar, 3 Golden Globes, 2 awards for best actress in Cannes, and the award for best actress at the Venice International Film Festival - Helen Mirren.

Festival of Two Anniversaries

The festival is deeply connected with Warsaw, where before the war the largest Jewish diaspora in Europe lived, and the second largest community in the world after New York. The Honorary Patronage of the event has been undertaken by the Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, and the Marshal of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, Adam Struzik.

This year, we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. The “Camera of David Foundation" is among the institutions invited by the POLIN Museum to co-create the film program accompanying this exceptionally important anniversary. That's why the motto of this year's festival is a phrase taken from Marian Turski's speech, "THOU SHALT NOT BE INDIFFERENT”.

In 2023, we also mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of the state of Israel. For this occasion, we have prepared a special program of Israeli films for our audience. As every year, our event is partnered with the Israeli Embassy in Poland.

Festival Cinemas 

Joining our festival cinemas this year, is a venue of immense tradition and high prestige – the Muranów cinema. Just like last year, we also invite you to the Norblin Factory, where the glitzy and comfortable KinoGram cinema is located. And on Sunday, the last day of the festival, we are organizing Boker tov in collaboration with JCC Warsaw.

All the venues hosting us are exceptional, and in all of them, from October 23rd to 29th, you will see extraordinary films! Tickets will go on sale on September 18th!

In the program, alongside films portraying contemporary Israel and those relating to the 80th anniversary of the ghetto uprising, you will see films dedicated to female figures, a section of German films (created in partnership with the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation and the German Embassy), Dutch films (with the screenings partnered by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands), films about contemporary Jewish life, culinary films, and many more.
