Simone, respected surgeon of Jewish descent, lives in central Trieste. He fell out with his father, Holocaust survivor and concentration camp prisoner. One evening Simone comes to the rescue of a road accident victim. But upon discovering his Nazi chest tattoo he decides to let the man die. A few days later guilt-ridden Simone tries to find the dead man’s family. Eventually he gets to know Marika, the eldest daughter; Marcello, teenager obsessed with Nazi ideology and the youngest Paolo. „They are neither good nor bad, just people” - says director Mauro Mancini about his protagonists.
